Modern Apprenticeships
Invest in Talent This Summer – and Build Your Future Workforce with support from UHI North, West and Hebrides
Will you be welcoming young people into your organisation this summer? Have you considered upskilling them with a view to full‑time employment in the autumn?
By training individuals on the job through a Modern Apprenticeship programme, you can shape your ideal team member while gaining a qualified, motivated, and loyal employee in return. Modern Apprenticeships are also an excellent option for supporting existing staff to develop their skills, strengthen their confidence, and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
The MA Business and Administration (SCQF Level 5) is an internationally recognised qualification designed for those working in business and administrative roles. It provides learners with the practical skills and knowledge needed to perform effectively in the workplace.
The qualification consists of three mandatory units and five optional units, carefully selected to reflect the candidate’s current job role, ensuring learning is relevant and immediately applicable to your business.
Hear from a Modern Apprentice:
Abbie Harrold wanted to learn while doing – she liked the idea of learning in a real work environment, gaining valuable skills and gaining an industry recognised qualification at the same time.
Abbie says; I gained technical knowledge such as learning company processes, using software, and maintaining records. The most valuable to me were the personal skills. When I started, I wasn’t as confident and would question myself a lot. With support from my colleagues and my assessor from UHI North, West and Hebrides, I became more independent and confident in the work I was producing.”
“The most rewarding part was seeing my skills progress and knowing I can apply them to day-to-day activities and contribute to the team. Seeing the feedback on progress reports from my assessor and employer was always rewarding, as others were noticing my progress.”
Employer Insight
Sandra Gow, Director, Lybster:
“We believe Modern Apprenticeships open doors to talented individuals who may not follow traditional degree pathways. By enabling apprentices to combine education with employment, they gain essential practical skills while earning. This approach strengthens our business and helps us build a capable, future‑ready workforce.”
Why Choose a Modern Apprenticeship?
Modern Apprenticeships support workforce development by helping employers train new staff and upskill existing employees. They are supported by funding from Skills Development Scotland, meaning there is no cost for under 25s (£200 employer contribution for over 25s), and most candidates are potentially eligible for up to 100% funding, depending on age and eligibility criteria.
If you’re looking to develop talent, improve retention, and invest in the future of your business, Modern Apprenticeships offer a flexible and effective solution.
