Join the Board of Anam Cara Fasgadh

Anam Cara Fasgadh is a Scottish charity based in Argyll, founded in 2018 to bring compassion, respite, and hope to families bereaved through the loss of a baby, child, or young person.

Through Poppy’s Place — their peaceful caravan at Tralee Bay Holiday Park on Scotland’s west coast — and the memorial events they host, they have supported more than 100 families from across Scotland and beyond. Their vision is to expand this support through a network of safe, nurturing spaces across the country where grieving families can rest, reflect and heal.

They are now seeking new Directors to join their Board and help shape the next chapter of their journey.

As a Director, you will:

Guide the charity’s strategy, values, and long-term vision
Ensure good governance, transparency, and financial sustainability
Champion equality, inclusion, and best practice
Build partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organisations to grow awareness and support

Commitment: Around 4 Board meetings a year (mix of Zoom and in-person), plus their AGM and occasional events. The role is voluntary, but pre-agreed travel expenses are reimbursed.

They welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, especially those with experience in Fundraising, Business Planning, and Strategic Planning. Empathy, commitment, and a belief in our mission are essential.

Lochaber Dog Services has launched a trial pilot project of a secure dog field just outside Spean Bridge, giving local dog owners a safe, private space to exercise their dogs off-lead. The project called ‘Dog Country’ is the first of its kind in the area and has already drawn strong interest.

The trial field can be booked online for solo sessions, making it especially valuable for owners of nervous, reactive, or rescue dogs who may not otherwise be comfortable off-lead. Early feedback has been hugely positive, with one visitor describing it as “an asset to the community” and another noting how much their usually restricted greyhound and lurcher enjoyed the freedom to run.

As a pilot, the site is being used to test layouts, activities, group events & classes and community demand before plans for any larger, permanent facility are taken forward. Future improvements under consideration include waste disposal services, seating and shelter, and wildlife/security cameras to provide additional peace of mind.

Lochaber Dog Services hopes the trial will not only support local dog owners but also highlight the demand for safe, accessible canine facilities across the Highlands.
